IE6 no more!

We're concerned about Internet Explorer 6. We recognize that this is still a used navigator, but it is becoming increasing difficult to support it and still produce a site that meets the expectations of modern users. Some quick hits on this:

  • IE6 is almost ten years old,
  • IE6 doesn't support new standards,
  • Google and YouTube no longer support IE6

In fact, there's a growing campaign to stop supporting IE6. This simple website provides a very concise case for why the Microsoft browser must be abandoned to promote innovation on the web: http://www.ie6nomore.com(external link) It then provides a call to action: embed a line of code that will tell your website visitors still using IE6 to switch to a modern browser.

What are your thoughts on this? Will it be possible to deliver a site that does not support IE6? We highly recommend this course of action, and have recently made an internal decision to stop supporting this browser.

An interesting links about the subject:

Looking forward to your response.
